Cornerstone Research Group

Cornerstone Research Group, Inc. (Cornerstone) is a research and development service company that combines creative science and engineering to discover, develop, and deliver revolutionary materials-based solutions to customers' varied challenges. They focus on the design and application of state-of-the-art materials for commercial and military markets. Their research has resulted in several patent application filings for their customers as well as the development of their own intellectual property portfolio.

The company's mission is to understand customers' challenges and dreams and match them with emerging technologies. Cornerstone was founded in April 1997, by Dr. Patrick J. Hood, as a for-profit research and development corporation. Now into its tenth year in business, the company strives to transition advanced materials and process technologies to market by teaming with leading university research groups, conducting applied research and process development, and spinning out technologies through new ventures, joint ventures and/or licensing.

In 2004, a new company spun off from Cornerstone's research efforts. CRG Industries LLC, a materials supply company, is dedicated to supplying high-performance materials and emerging technologies to government and industry. CRG Industries manufactures state-of-the-art materials created and leveraged by Cornerstone's multimillion-dollar research and development programs. In addition, the company manufactures and distributes materials patented by others and licensed by Cornerstone. These materials have a wealth of uses and applications in commercial, medical, industrial, and military fields.

Originally Cornerstone concentrated on developing novel polymeric materials for military programs. Then, in February 2001, Cornerstone procured its first commercial research and development contract. According to Dr. Hood, the company now focuses on the design and application of state-of-the-art materials for both commercial and military markets including: aerospace, medical technology, space and industrial applications. In each of these areas, Cornerstone conducts applied research on emerging materials technologies to address specific materials and processing technology shortfalls.

Dr. Hood is also supportive of local universities and colleges through extensive internship and cooperative education opportunities. Many of the company's employees are interns from local schools studying engineering disciplines, physics, materials science or chemistry. Cornerstone also partners with internationally recognized scientists who conduct basic and applied research to develop advanced polymeric materials via government-sponsored programs.
